New lingua franca
English has become the language of the whole world, first with the growth of the British Empire and later thanks to the rise of the United States. It replaced French as the language used by well-paid elites.
On a personal level, working with English means higher earnings than for people with similar qualifications who do not know English.
English First carried out the world’s largest study of English proficiency in different countries.
The results clearly show that working with English is linked to higher earnings and a better quality of life.
Working with English pays better
.
On this chart, we can see that the number of thousands of dollars earned each year clearly rises as English proficiency increases. People who speak English can expect better-paid work, and whole countries develop better because of it. As a country’s economic situation improves, overall English knowledge among its people rises too.
In short, by learning English you help not only yourself, but everyone around you!
English for business
If a company or an entire country wants to attract investment, build business contacts, and stimulate economic growth, it must create a business-friendly environment. That means, among other things, widespread English knowledge.
For example, many companies founded in non-English-speaking countries (for example, Samsung or Renault) have adopted English as their corporate language.

English raises quality of life
The UN Human Development Index measures living standards in different countries by looking at data such as life expectancy, education, and earnings. The chart clearly shows that quality of life rises as English proficiency increases.
English is now a basic skill that affects our standard of living and our earnings.
Learning English is as important as knowing mathematics or your native language. Given the growing importance of English around the world over the last 20 years, we can expect that as new generations enter the labour market, knowledge of English will become more and more important every year.
So it is probably worth learning English!
