Black Friday is a kind of opening of the Christmas shopping season. It earned the nickname “black” because of the masses of people storming American stores on the first Friday after Thanksgiving. In the 1950s, it was bestowed upon him by the… Philadelphia police because of terrible traffic jams on the roads as well as outbreaks of violence among exasperated consumers.
Since 2010, 12 people have lost their lives and 117 have been injured¹ in America during the Black Friday frenzy. People have been trampled to death, quite a few people have been shot, spectacular brawls are popular, especially at the popular Wallmart hypermarket. Hence the newspaper The New York Daily News nicknamed the day Black-Eye Friday, or black eye (black) day. Anyway, you can see what’s going on there in the US TV news below:
On the other hand, this is the most profitable day for stores. Traditionally, accountants in America and England entered losses in red (hence to be in the red means to have losses or debt in the bank) and profits in black precisely. To avoid the madness, many stores are starting to organize even more interesting promotions today before Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Green Monday in mid-December have also appeared.
Of course, no major social event can happen without commentary from Internet users. Here are some funny memes about Black Friday.
