Son estas palabras que comienzan con las <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/alfabeto-en-ingles-o-la-ciencia-de-la-ortografia\/\">letras<\/a> <em>wh<\/em> &#8211; las que nos confunden al principio. De ah\u00ed que en ingl\u00e9s las llamemos <em>wh- words<\/em> (que comienzan por wh) o <em>question words<\/em> (palabras para preguntar).<\/p>\n<p>Esos son:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>what <\/em>(qu\u00e9)<\/li>\n<li><em>when <\/em>(cu\u00e1ndo)<\/li>\n<li><em>where <\/em>(d\u00f3nde)<\/li>\n<li><em>who <\/em>(qui\u00e9n)<\/li>\n<li><em>why <\/em>(por qu\u00e9)<\/li>\n<li><em>whom<\/em> (a qui\u00e9n)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Y un poco m\u00e1s complicado:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>which <\/em>(cu\u00e1l)<\/li>\n<li><em>de qui\u00e9n<\/em> (de qui\u00e9n)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A prop\u00f3sito, <em>las palabras wh<\/em> tambi\u00e9n se utilizan para crear \u00abfrases dentro frases\u00bb. A esto lo llamamos <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/relative-clauses-ingles\/\"><em>relative clauses<\/em><\/a> . Pero \u00e9stas no tienen por qu\u00e9 ser preguntas en absoluto (luego m\u00e1s al respecto). Por lo tanto, las mismas <em>\u00abwh-words\u00bb<\/em> se denominan entonces pronombres relativos <em>(relative pronouns)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8954 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/relative-pronouns-zaimki-wzgledne.jpg\" alt=\"pronombres relativos, who, relative pronouns\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>\u00bf<em>\u00abWh- word\u00bb<\/em> sin las letras <em>wh?<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Por otro lado, aunque esta palabra no empiece por las letras <em>wh-,<\/em> tambi\u00e9n la utilizamos como pronombre interrogativo para hacer<em>\u00abwh-questions <\/em>\u00ab:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>how<\/em> (c\u00f3mo)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sobre todo porque forma parte de:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>how many<\/em> (cu\u00e1ntos &#8211; para <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/singular-plural-ingles\/\">los sustantivos contables<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><em>how much<\/em> (cu\u00e1nto &#8211; para los sustantivos incontables)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13573\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/much-many-lots-of.jpg\" alt=\"much many lots of\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/much-many-lots-of.jpg 640w, https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/much-many-lots-of-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ahora veamos qu\u00e9 pinta tienen nuestras <em>wh- questions<\/em>en la pr\u00e1ctica.<\/p>\n<h2>Ejemplos de <em>wh- questions<\/em> en <em>present simple<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>El tiempo <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\"><em>present simple<\/em><\/a> nos habla de las actividades que realizamos con regularidad. As\u00ed que si queremos preguntar algo que nuestro interlocutor hace a diario, debemos hacer la <em>wh- question<\/em> precisamente con el <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\"><em>present simple<\/em><\/a> .<\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se forman <em>las preguntas<\/em> en el <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\">tiempo <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\">present simple<\/a>?<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Por lo general, nuestro <em>wh-word<\/em> va al principio de la pregunta.<\/p>\n<p>En <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\">el tiempo verbal <em>present simple<\/em><\/a> podemos utilizar tres <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/auxiliares-verbos-auxiliary-verbs\/\">verbos auxiliares<em>(to be, to have, to do)<\/em>.<\/a> Para hacer una pregunta en ingl\u00e9s, hacemos la inversi\u00f3n, es decir, le damos la vuelta a las primeras palabras.<\/p>\n<p>Por ejemplo:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This is<\/span> a subway. <\/em>(Esto es un metro.)<\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Is this a<\/span> subway? <\/em>(\u00bfTe gusto?)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Why<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #008080;\">do<\/span> you like me?<\/em>(\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 te gusto?)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>How much<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #008080;\">do<\/span> you like me? <\/em>(\u00bfCu\u00e1nto te gusto?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Y recuerda que para la tercera persona del singular en el <em>present simple<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/cuando-usamos-do-does-doing-did-done-ingles-scooby-doo\/\">usamos <em>does<\/em>en lugar de <em>do<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Where<\/strong> does she live?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Where<\/strong> does he go for his holiday?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>When<\/strong> does it start?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>La tercera opci\u00f3n es el verbo auxiliar <em>have (has<\/em> para <em>he, she, it)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You have (<a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/ingles-have-got-o-ingles-to-be\/\">got<\/a>) an elephant. <\/em>(Tienes un elefante.)<\/li>\n<li><em>Have you got an elephant? El asunto es m\u00e1s sencillo, ya que no hay que cambiar nada en la tercera persona del singular (ella, \u00e9l, ello).<\/p>\n<p>Utilizando los mismos ejemplos de antes, esto ser\u00e1:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Where <strong>was<\/strong> this house? <\/em>(\u00bfD\u00f3nde estaba esta casa?)<\/li>\n<li><em>Whose <strong>was<\/strong> this house? <\/em>(\u00bfDe qui\u00e9n era esta casa?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Es decir, s\u00f3lo cambiamos el tiempo del verbo auxiliar <em>(is\u2192was; do\u2192did):<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Why <strong>did<\/strong> you like me? <\/em>(\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 te gustaba?)<\/li>\n<li><em>How much <strong>did<\/strong> you like me? <\/em>(\u00bfCu\u00e1nto te gustaba?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aunque la forma <em>\u00ab\u00bfHad you an elephant?\u00bb<\/em> es aparentemente correcta, no deja de ser bastante anticuada. Resulta que era la lengua inglesa la que estaba equivocada todo el tiempo\u00bb.<\/em> V\u00e9ase tambi\u00e9n: <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/past-simple-ingles-pasado-tiempo\/\"><em>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 el navegador GPS le habla a Chuck Norris en past simple?<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><em>Preguntas wh-<\/em> problem\u00e1ticas<\/h2>\n<p>Especialmente <em>who<\/em> (qui\u00e9n), <em>which one<\/em> (cu\u00e1l) i <i>what<\/i> tienen la tendencia de actuar no s\u00f3lo como predicado (<em>object<\/em>) sino tambi\u00e9n como sujeto de la oraci\u00f3n. Esto cambia el significado.<\/p>\n<p>Compara.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>Who <strong>did<\/strong> Amelia <strong>call<\/strong>? <\/em>(\u00bfA qui\u00e9n llam\u00f3 Amelia? &#8211; aqu\u00ed <em>who<\/em> forma parte del predicado (CD).<\/li>\n<li><em>Who <strong>called<\/strong> Amelia?<\/em> (\u00bfQui\u00e9n llam\u00f3 a Amelia? &#8211; aqu\u00ed <em>who<\/em>es el sujeto y Amelia es el CD).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Eso cambia totalmente el significado de la frase para nosotros.<\/p>\n<p>Date cuenta que en el segundo caso no hay <em>did<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Lo mismo ocurrir\u00e1 con las frases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Who wants to have some fun? <\/em>(No: <em>Who <del>does<\/del> want to have some fun.<\/em> \u00bfQui\u00e9n quiere divertirse? Bueno, a no ser que se trate de un <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/enfasis-en-ingles\/\">\u00e9nfasis<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><em>What happened to you? <\/em>(Nie: <em>What <del>did<\/del> happened to you.<\/em> \u00bfQu\u00e9 te ha pasado?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Ten en cuenta tambi\u00e9n que <em>which &amp; whose<\/em> suelen ir seguidos <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/singular-plural-ingles\/\">de un sustantivo<\/a>:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Whose <strong>car<\/strong> is it? <\/em>(\u00bfDe qui\u00e9n es este coche?
